2024 Ojai Guide

Ojai is a magical place located about two hours northwest of Los Angeles in the valley of the Topatopa Mountains in Ventura County. It is known as one of the world’s spiritual vortexes. What’s a spiritual vortex you ask? Spiritual vortexes are cross-points between energy fields in the earth’s grid system. A few vortex spots you may already be familiar with are in Sedona and Crater Lake. Spiritual vortexes are conducive to meditation and spiritual soul-searching. In addition to these spiritual benefits, Ojai is a perfect place to spend the day or weekend when you want to get away from it all and enjoy good food, nature, and a laid-back vibe. As a bonus, Ojai happens to be one of the most dog-friendly places I have ever visited!

These are my favorite places to stay, eat, drink, and soul-search in Ojai. I will keep this guide updated as I explore more of what Ojai has to offer.

Hummingbird Inn

WHERE TO STAY:

Capri Hotel: Recently renovated hotel with mid-century modern vibes in a convenient location. They have a lovely pool and firepit area. *Dog-friendly

Hummingbird Inn: No-frills hotel in a good location. They have a nice pool, and their front lawn is a great place for stargazing. Also, randomly they have plentiful TV options – like every channel you could imagine which is a big bonus for me! *Dog-friendly

Ojai Rancho Inn: Groovy hotel located right at the entrance to Ojai.  They have a walking path to town, a relaxing pool, and complimentary bikes available for use.  My favorite part is Chief’s Peak – their cozy bars that features natural wines and good music.

Ojai Valley Inn: This is an amazing resort in Ojai! It has great food, a lovely pool, and a wonderful spa. It books up fast, however, and is on the spendy side. If you don’t stay here, you should still pay a visit for a meal or a drink at the bar. *Dog-friendly

RESTAURANTS:

Ojai Roti: I’m obsessed with this place! They specialize in French-Lebanese style rotisserie chicken and their food is fantastic! While the chicken is a must, I may love their sides even more. Their “Dippity Dips” comes with Hummus, Charred Eggplant, and Muhammara served with Grilled Manouche. They also have fresh sourdough bread and fun wine options. You can enjoy all of this on their lively patio. *Dog-friendly

Olivella: Located in the Ojai Valley Inn, this place is fantastic!  Think California cuisine with just the right amount of Italian influence.  This is a tasting menu situation and I suggest getting the wine pairing to go along with it.  Their menu is super seasonal, and they highlight ingredients from local Ojai valley ranches, orchards, and farms.

Rory’s Place: This is a fabulous dinner spot in Ojai! I adore their Little Gems salad complete with radish and chives on top. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, and they have a unique wine list that is much appreciated. *Dog-friendly

The Duchess: While they are open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, I really love The Duchess for weekend brunch. Such a fun scene - they have plenty of seating with a cozy patio in the back. They have the most beautiful baked goods and unique, brunch-approved cocktails to start your day. They also have the best Chicken & Waffles…seriously so good! Just go early since they tend to get busy on the weekends. *Dog-friendly

THINGS TO DO:

Bart’s Books: I love all bookstores, but I think Bart’s is my favorite one yet!! This is an outdoor bookstore…yes, an outdoor bookstore! They have every type of book you can think of, and I could wander around this place for hours! They also have an incredibly helpful staff that can point you in the right direction when you get overwhelmed!

The Crystal Corner: Ojai is a perfect place to let your spiritual side run wild and The Crystal Corner is a great place to start that journey. They have interesting books, beautiful crystals, and you can schedule sessions with their readers and healers.

Ojai Meadows Preserve: Such a relaxing place to take a morning stroll! There is an easy loop you can do around the preserve. Great for checking out birds and enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. *Dog-friendly

The Ojai Vineyard Tasting Room: Tucked away on a cute side street, the Ojai Vineyard Tasting Room is a great place to relax and enjoy some delicious wine. You can order a tasting or purchase wines by the glass. They also have incredible library tastings where you can savor some older gems. They have been making wine since the early ‘80s and they have some beautiful offerings, many of them coming from famous Central Coast vineyards. They currently have a 2020 Bien Nacido Syrah that I just love! *Dog-friendly

Shelf Road Trail: This is a relatively easy trail with stunning views of Ojai! My favorite part is the delightful scents emanating from the tangerine orchards below. Very limited shade so be sure you bring your sunscreen! *Dog-friendly
